Sigmat have completed their first project for main contractor, Engie, at the University of Birmingham. The prestigious student accommodation development plays a key part in helping the university achieve their goal of providing sustainable, high-quality student homes enhancing the campus experience.
The scheme, Pritchatts Park, is the university’s first ever zero carbon accommodation, creating highly efficient student homes. The Sigmat team delivered the light gauge steel frame structure, including 184 flights of stairs with balustrades fitted, with a total of 4,737m linear metres of panels and 11,912m2 GIFA.
Demonstrating the programme benefits of MMC and in particular the Sigmat LGSF solution, the team completed on site an impressive 10 weeks ahead of programme. Allowing for follow on trade to commence earlier and overall delivering cost and time savings.
Jason Berry, Sigmat Contracts Manager, commented “The University of Birmingham scheme was a fantastic job for Sigmat, we were delighted to work with the team at Engie and demonstrate first-hand the programme and sustainability benefits of constructing in LGSF. Not only is it a highly sustainable solution, but the offsite manufacturing element ensures programme surety during times of wet weather for example.”
