Building using light gauge steel systems manufactured offsite is already a sustainable choice. With the advent of lower carbon steel, that choice has become even more sustainable.
What is lower carbon steel?
Lower carbon steel is a type of steel which is produced using equipment, processes and inputs which minimises the CO2 generated during steel manufacturing, and maximises the use of recycled materials.CO2 emissions reduction
Specifically, the steel is manufactured in mills which use state-of-the-art electric arc furnaces powered by 100% renewable energy sources, rather than in traditional blast furnaces which use fossil fuels.
This means that, on average, the CO2 generated by the lower carbon steel raw material manufacturing process is reduced by around 65% compared to steel manufactured using traditional processes - a significant carbon saving for your development or project.
Increased recycled material usage
What's more, lower carbon steel uses relatively more recycled material in its manufacture - a minimum of 75% compared to more typical ranges of 20 to 60% for light gauge steel; avoiding processing and consumption of virgin raw materials, unnecessary mining or quarrying, and contributing to a more circular economy (and steel is infinitely and easily recyclable).

Remagin can offer lower carbon steel solutions in various thicknesses of material, from 0.8mm up to 3.0mm, which means that the vast majority of its product range, in both Steel Framing Systems (SFS) for external wall applications and in Light Gauge Steel Framing systems (LGSF) for building structures, is now available in a lower carbon format.
